{"id":1379,"date":"2011-09-22T11:00:56","date_gmt":"2011-09-22T10:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.idenk.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1379"},"modified":"2011-09-19T18:06:26","modified_gmt":"2011-09-19T17:06:26","slug":"conflict-is-it-in-your-head-or-heart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/blog\/conflict-is-it-in-your-head-or-heart\/","title":{"rendered":"Conflict, is it in your head or heart?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are two key ideas on conflict:<\/p>\n<p>1) Whilst it is a feature which can feel uncomfortable in teams and relationships, it is actually a\u00a0good thing,\u00a0useful in generating ideas and refining the way forward<\/p>\n<p>2) It can scare and paralyse \u2013\u00a0maybe because we know\u00a0it can lead to long term harm.<\/p>\n<p>This dilemma or polarity is the trickiest thing to manage \u2013 and contains a conflict in itself.<\/p>\n<p>There is lots<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Team_conflict\"> on line <\/a>about conflict and how to approach and manage it. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One useful idea is the difference between <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chumans.com\/human-systems-resources\/managing-team-conflict.html\">cognitive and affective conflict<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This is simply either looking in on an issue and analysing it dispassionately\u00a0in comparison to being totally wrapped up in the emotions and the moment. In short taking an Emotional Intelligence (EQ) based approach.<\/p>\n<p>One tried and trusted method we find that is useful with groups is use of de Bono\u2019s Six Thinking Hats.
