{"id":2730,"date":"2014-11-10T10:00:41","date_gmt":"2014-11-10T10:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/blog\/?p=2730"},"modified":"2014-11-18T11:02:04","modified_gmt":"2014-11-18T11:02:04","slug":"effort-in-the-npo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/blog\/effort-in-the-npo\/","title":{"rendered":"eFFOrt in the NPO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In seeking to improve the ways of working in Noble Purpose Organisations, where is it best to start\u00a0to get (or move further) onto the front foot?<\/p>\n<p>To mix my metaphors, many are interested in \u2018culture\u2019 and \u2018tools\u2019 to fix the organisational \u2018DNA\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>I have just read another \u2018top 50\u2019 list \u2013 the top innovators.<\/p>\n<p>So here is my \u2018top 6\u2019. A few things I find helpful.<\/p>\n<p>For Alignment: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/blog\/scenario-planning-in-a-box-blog\/\">preferred scenarios <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/blog\/are-we-sailing-we-are-sailing\/\">journey planners<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Attitude: working to \u2018practice what is preached\u2019 with the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/values\/\"> 5 level values model <\/a>and perusing and encouraging <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/blog\/learning-from-success-from-skill-and-style-to-strength-and-stamina-through-the-team\/\">strengths based leadership in groups<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Awareness: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/blog\/witos-the-lens-and-examples-of-perspective\/\">WITOS <\/a>and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/business_briefing\/2014-sept.shtml\">perspective assessment <\/a>to try and see at least 2 sides of any issue \u2013 especially in meetings<\/p>\n<p>And for Accountable Autonomy: the work of Gerard Fairtlough and \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.idenk.com\/ra\/\">the three ways of getting things done\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fundamentally, I think the cultural dynamic of Noble Purpose Organisations can be a pretty huge barrier to fundamental improvement. Blind \u2018ego\u2019 is part of the core dynamic. These 6 methods help increase the sense of<br \/>\n&#8211; agreed direction<br \/>\n&#8211; reinforced momentum<br \/>\n&#8211; co-ordination and collaboration<br \/>\n&#8211; and balanced working.<\/p>\n<p>Or in other words, they help leaders get themselves and their teams on the front foot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In seeking to improve the ways of working in Noble Purpose Organisations, where is it best to start\u00a0to get (or move further) onto the front foot?
